Beauty Supplies for Hair Styling

Whether you are styling someone else's hair or your own, the first thing that you need is to ensure that you have the proper beauty supplies on hand. Regardless of what look you are trying to achieve, the final result will depend on the products and tools that you use.

  • Brushes - Brushes are used for shaping and giving hair additional body. There are numerous types of brushes that serve different purposes. Round brushes are useful when creating curls, while flat paddle brushes can help straighten it during the hair drying process.

  • Combs - There are many types of combs that are available for styling. The most important comb to have is a basic all purpose one that can be used for nearly all of your styling needs. Another important comb is one that has wide teeth. This is useful for removing tangles without pulling or breaking the hair. Rat-tail combs are necessary for creating precise parts in the hair either in the finished style or when creating sections for hair rolling.

  • Hair Curlers or Rollers - Hair rollers such as magnetic rollers can be used to create curls without the direct heat of a curling iron. Hair is wrapped around the rollers while it is damp and the curls are set under a hood or bonnet style dryer. Velcro rollers are another type of hair curler, as are heated hair rollers that are used on dry hair only.

  • Electric Styling Tools - There is a variety of electric styling tools that achieve different effects. Curling irons come in different sizes to make everything from tight to large, loose curls. Flat irons are used to create straight hairstyles that are free of any wave patterns. There are also pressing combs, which can be plugged in and use intense heat to straighten out coarse textured hair.

  • Blow Dryer - Hairdryers are for drying and styling the hair. They can be set at different temperatures and can be fit with several different parts such as diffusers, brush or pick attachments.

  • Hair Clips and Pins - Hair clips are often used to hold sections of hair while styling the hair. They can be made of plastic or metal. Hair pins are often smaller than clips and are used for pinning certain styles in place.

  • Styling Products - Common styling products include hairspray, mousse, gels or smoothing serums. These items are used to help hold the hair so that it can keep a certain shape. They have varying degrees of hold and some can feel stiff or sticky to the touch, particularly if used in excess. When choosing the right hair styling product it is important to take the desired look into consideration as well as your hair texture.
