A career in multimedia and animation has many options for graduates and is great for those who love art.  A four-year degree will be preferred by most employers, and there are several colleges and schools with programs to prepare you for this industry.

Education

A Bachelor of Media Arts & Animation is the most common degree to obtain a career in multimedia and animation. This will require many general education classes, along with classes in 2D and 3D art. Technology classes, computer classes and design-focused classes will also be required.

Career Options

There are a number of career options with this degree, including jobs in animation, cartooning, advertising, web programming and more. There are several animation and multimedia companies that work for businesses ranging from television networks to video game programming and design.  Graduates have many options for different career paths and interests.

Salary Pay

The amount of money earned annually will depend on the job position, responsibilities and employer.  A digital media designer just starting out can expect to earn anywhere slightly above or below $35,000 for the first few years.  A graphic designer or motion designer is going to earn upwards of $40,000 annually starting out. As skills improve, and better positions are available, the possibility of earning upwards of $75,000 is very achievable.

Job Demand

The field of multimedia and animation has a good job market at this time. Many companies are choosing to advertise on the Internet and through mobile devices, creating a higher demand for graphic design and animation. Video game consoles continue to grow in popularity, along with high-tech movies and cartoons. This field has several opportunities currently and is only projected to continue growing.
