About Boston Terrier Dogs

If you are looking for a small dog that is sturdy and compact, the Boston Terrier may just be the right breed for your family. The Boston Terrier is a short-haired dog that is black and white, but the markings of white can vary slightly according to breed standards.

Meet the Boston Terrier

The Boston Terrier was named after the man that purchased a mixed breed dog sometime in the last 1800's. He bred this mixed breed of an English Bulldog and English White Terrier with a French Bulldog and this created the new breed, the Boston Terrier. These dogs were never bred for hunting or working, but rather for show dogs as well as companion dogs.

The Boston Terrier stands about 15 inches high and can weigh between 10 and 25 pounds. Because of their large eyes, they are prone to developing eye problems. Therefore, you should always keep their eyes clean and have regular veterinarian checkups. Grooming is a breeze since they are short haired; a bath ever now and again is about all that is required for the Boston Terrier.

Personality Traits

Boston Terriers are full of energy and love nothing more than spending time with their families. They have a sweet personality and very affectionate. They can also be somewhat of a clown to get lots of laughs from the family, making themselves the center of attention. These dogs work well for families with children, but also do well in homes with no children. Moreover, they are friendly with strangers, so having company is never a problem when owning a Boston Terrier.
