AAA and AARP are two companies that offer emergency road service to stranded drivers. Each company offers unique benefits and it is important to evaluate the features when choosing a plan.
AAA Membership
- All four wheel, licensed and insured vehicles are covered by AAA coverage. Rental vehicles are included in and covered by your AAA membership also.
- AAA Emergency Road Service is available 365 days a year, all day long.
- AAA Emergency Road Service includes mechanical adjustments, battery boost, flat tire, fuel delivery, lockout service, winching and towing services.
- Many hotels and other organizations offer discounts to AAA members.
AARP Membership
- AARP Roadside Assistance covers problems that may arise during travel. AARP's plans cover expenses necessary to repair flat tires, engage towing services, provide gas for empty tanks, charge dead batteries, get a locksmith and get RV services.
- AARP Roadside Assistance is only available to AARP members.
Coverage Differences
- AAA Standard covers towing for three miles from your breakdown. AARP Standard covers towing for five miles from your breakdown.
- AAA Standard provides or reimburses locksmith fees up to $50 per incident. AARP Standard allows up to $80 per lock replacement and up to $25 for a key replacement.
- AAA Standard allows four uses of emergency services per calendar year per member. AARP Standard covers four uses per year for a single member, five uses per year per couple and seven uses per year for a family.
