About Sylacauga, AL
Sylacauga, which as been nicknamed "Marble City" and "Buzzard's Roost", is located in Talladega County, Alabama. The city is the site where the first case of an object from space hitting a person. In 1954, a four kilogram meteorite, now known as the Hodges Meteorite, crashed through a roof injuring Mrs.Hodges while she was napping on the couch. Sylacagua received the nickname "Marble City" because the city was built on a solid deposit of the whitest, hardest marble in the world. Major attractions here include the Isabel A Comer Museum, Pinecrest Memorial Park and Marble City BMX. Students living in Sylacauga attend the Sylacauga City School System. Famous people with ties to the city include actor Jim Neighbors, NBA player Gerald Wallace and write Van Allen Plexico.
