It’s going to change I just need this job. They got “Now Hiring” on the door. I’m going to get this job. I know it I have to believe. You say a prayer. Please lord let me get this job. You think I’m not going to tell them about my past. I’m going to get this money. Maybe they will not do a back ground check. If I can work a week and get that money I will have more than I have now. Well everything looks good. “Can you pass a background check?” You decide to tell them about the felony. You know the PO is going to call and or come visit the job anyway. You decide to be honest, you tell them. “I’m a convicted felon.” So you have a Criminal Record? Everything changes. The Interviewer is on defense and the expressions on his face tell it all. You know what’s coming. You’ve heard it over and over. Some interviewers will let you know right there. I’m sorry we do not hire people with felonies. Some will entertain you for a while. Please explain the circumstances. You start explaining and you be honest you let them know exactly how it was. You served your time or you have walked down probation. You learned a very valuable life lesson. Now you’re trying to get your life back in order. You are not the same person when you committed the crime. Whatever your crime was you are being judged all over again for the same crime you’ve been punished for. Some companies are in a position to provide second chance jobs for felons. Understand all companies in the world cannot hire a felon for various legitimate reasons, honestly. Their insurance or the type of industry they are in. However, a lot of companies are able to hire convicted felons. They just choose not to. It is possible that through someone else that works there or someone in a higher position will open the doors to a convicted felon. However it’s more than likely it’s either a friend, family member or has to do with politics in the company. Regardless of it all, it still leaves most of us out in the cold. They smoke marijuana, or maybe it was meth they don’t like the meth dealers because it’s too many children on meth now. It may have been different it if was coke they may toot every once in a while, that would have been okay. You know maybe they would have understood. Regardless of what it is you are walking out the door. Without a J-O-B Disappointed you didn’t get that job. You need money. You have real life issues that you need to take care of. You’re not in self- pity mode you in real life mode. You got to make something happen. “I got to handle my business” You know how to get paid. It’s always someone that has work to move and it’s always someone that want to buy some work. You’ve done everything you were supposed to do. You went to the reentry programs, the Career Centers, you’ve called half the companies on the list of companies that hire felons. No one is hiring right now. You prayed about it, cried about it and got furious about it. You lashed out at friends and family the same ones you love and want to provide for; you’re hurting them emotionally because you are hurting. What do you do? You just need a chance With all that said how can a felon start over? There is no 100% answer to that, so much can be said.
