Decent supplier at best

I had heard good things about Tony's for awhile and decided to try it for myself. I am a sushi fanatic so finding the right fish is very important.

I called in on a Monday and ordered sushi grade yellow fin and sushi grade salmon to be picked up on the next Saturday. They told me that would not be a problem and I was all set. I received a call on Friday Night explaining that they could not get the Salmon in. This is common so I was not surprised. They recommended I purchase some Marlin they just got in. I was fine with that so I agreed.

On Saturday I received another call in the morning and they said that they did have sushi grade salmon and that I can have my original order. I went down to the store to pick it up and they handed me just the yellow fin. I asked about the salmon and was informed that they did not have any sushi grade salmon. I then asked about the marlin and was told they did not have any. I complained about all of the issues I had and asked what my options were. They told me they had Tobo Tuna available and recommended it to me. I looked at the fish in the case and it did not look fresh. I asked again if it was ok to eat as sushi and he exclaimed that he would eat some right there in front of me. I told him that was ok and I would take his word.

We left Tony's and went right to the house to eat. The yellow fin was AMAZING it was so tender and melted in your mouth. I could not have been more satisfied. We then moved on to the Tobo. I unwrapped it and the smell was horrible. I tried to make a roll with it and I could not swallow it. It was obviously NOT sushi grade OR fresh. I thought at least I should try to cook it. So I did what I usually do with stinky fish, I battered and fried it. The fish was so bad that I could not eat that either.

I recommend if you shop at Tony's stick to what you know and do not ask for a recommendation.
