What's New with Sue

August 11, 2011

Wow...it's been a long time since I've "blogged"....Blog, what a funny word...but yet, is one way to stay in touch with my clients, good customers. future customers and my friends.  I know I have said this before, but I will try to do better with my "blogging".....oops, there's that word again.

"What's new with Sue?"...hmmmmmm...let's put it this way...I have been very busy.  I am truly a blessed person who receives such joy from doing her "work".  Even in this unstable financial  situation we find ourselves in, I have remained quite busy with my work. I  sold a painting "off the wall" yesterday of a Red Tailed Hawk and continue to take and  do a lot of commission work.  Yes, I am truly blessed, but there is so much more I could be doing in promoting my art work...it's definetly something I need to work on.

Again, I will try to "stay on top" of this "blog" (there's that word again) a bit more.  I am not going to promise..simply because I don't want to break yet another one...but I WILL try...that much I can say.  So really, you may be asking yourself..."what was the point of this blog post?".....well, that IS a good question....this is simply my attempt to reach out to you guys and let you know I have not dropped off the face of the earth.  With that said, I will hope to see you again soon with more "good stuff" to report.

Sue.

What's New with Sue..Christmas time is HERE

December 15, 2010

Where has the year gone?  It's been awhile since I even posted on this blog site...I guess it's because I have been very busy.  I have been truly blessed with a lot of great work to do...very blessed.

I am about to finish up on the Kennedy Family portrait....I know, I know, ....I have been working on it for a LONG time...but the end is in site.  I have also been doing a lot of Christmas commison work.  I have done so many pieces that at one point, I was painting as many as 12 hours a day...working in the studio and then taking pieces home and working on them there.  Lots of dog portraits this year as well as several children's portraits.  It's been a good year for animal art in Kingsport.

I am going to start working on some more miniatures pieces for the gallery....it seems folks really love them.  I like doing them because they are quick and gratifying....small wildlife art pieces are easily fit into anyone's home decor....like 'fun size" candy bars....everyone has room for one (or two).

I am looking forward to things calming down a bit so I can get into some wildlife pieces.  I recently took a trip with a friend to the Grayson Highlands in VA.  We were on a "photo safari" of sorts.  Up on this mountain is a herd of wild ponies.  We were able to get some awesome shots of the ponies and I am so wanting to do a series of paintings dipicting those sweet little guys.  Stay tuned, I hope to be able to post some neat progress photos of the pony paintings...

I hope this blog finds you well and enjoying the holiday season...May you enjoy the love of family and the gifts that God has given you.

Peace,
Sue

What's New With Sue-Back from Nashville!!

March 12, 2010

WOW....what a great time we had!!    Our district Represenative, Tony Shipley and his very talented wife, Susan, hosted 14 Kingsport artists in our State's captital.....We had an exhibit and a wonderful reception and were able to meet some very nice people.  We had a lot of great exposure with influential folks in the Arts Community...what a great opportunity it was indeed....thanks again to Rep Tony Shipley and Susan....it was truly a wonderful time.  While I was there, I managed to sell two paintings (always a good thing) and talk to some other folks about possible commissions in the future...I also handed out a lot of business cards..also a good thing.  We hope to make this a yearly event.

Patti Saliba purchased the painting of the Canada Geese at the Nashville exhibit in the Legislative Plaza in our state's capital...what a great day.  I certainly hope her son in law and daughter enjoy the painting.

here I am standing infront of some of my pieces...this was such a great event...now I can't wait 'till next year!!

The painting of the Red Fox (to my right in this photo) also found a home at this show...but it is a gift to be given to an out going president of a local university...so I will not tell you who until after the painting has been given to him as it is a surprise...and the anouncement of his leaving and the new president have not yet been made...oh, how fun it is to be on the "inside" of a secret!!

Thanks for stopping by...I will be showing more of the Kennedy Family portrait on my next blog entry...be sure to stay tuned and I will see you soon!!  Have a great weekend everyone!~~Sue

Amazing Wildlife Artist

I was amazed at the detail and accuracy of Suzanne Barrett Justis' wildlife paintings. I am a sportsman, and it is obvious that she "knows her stuff" So nice to see a talent and knowledge combined in such stunning wildlife pieces.

Awsome portrait work

Ms. Justis was in her studio when we stopped by the other day. She was working on two COMPLETELY different portraits, one of a dog and one of a girl. They were both stunning. How can a person do two portraits simultaneously , of different subjects ( species yet ) an...d get such great results. The kicker was she was working out ot the same box of paints!! I was amazed. Beautiful work by Suzanne Barrett Justis.

Wildlife artist thriving in Tennesse.

When I connected with your site, I had only seen a couple of your impressive works. And after just reviewing your sequential photo gallery, I have an even higher regard for your craft, work ethic and high level of expertise you provide in commissioned works. I have some knowledge of portraiture have done quite a few watercolor portraits from life. Kudos!
