Google Analytics & Tracking Your Rankings
The best way to track your traffic and rankings is by using Google Analytics. When you sign up for a Google Analytics account, you will be able to moniter:
- visitors to your web site
- referring sites - where people found your site
- keywords - keywords used to find your site
- search engines - what search engine someone used to find your site
- content - pages they viewed
- top landing pages - which page they came into your site (we can make a post on this entirely but people do not always come in through your homepage)
- top exiting pages - where most of your clients usually leave the site
- site overlay - This is my personal fav, you can actually find out where your traffic clicks through on your web site
- adwords - if you use PPC you can monitor that also
- and more!
Some basic steps to setting up Google Analytics:
- Sign Up for a Google Analytics Account
http://www.google.com/analytics/ - Fill out the information, Name, Phone, Country, Web Site
- Implement Code on every page within site
(You will need to have access to your web site pages to do this, some sites are wisiwigs, FTP etc) - Wait a month and watch where your clients are coming from
