Refuge For Men Salon Relocates to New Home on West Main Street

Refuge For Men is a expanding classic-style barber shop/salon, will be open for business in the Fan District starting October 1, 2013; blocks from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).  The shop is located near Lombardy Street on West Main Street, with street parking and available parking in the rear of the building.

Richmond, Virginia — Refuge For Men, a Multicultural Men and Boys Salon, announces their new location, 1607 W. Main Street, in Richmond, Virginia’s Fan District. The shop specializes in haircuts for men and boys, and offers complementary beverages, free WI-FI, and sports on the HD flat screen. Owner Dot Reid, opened Refuge For Men in 2010 in the Museum District. “After three successful years we need a bigger more comfortable space to spoil our clients,” said Dot. With its location on West Main Street, Refuge For Men Salon is the only barber shop of its kind north of the James River.

“Our philosophy is that all hair is not created equal and guys want cool cuts too; they like attention as much as women do,” said Dot. “The Fan District is very friendly with a great sense of community, and it fit perfectly with our own goals of providing a comfy, welcoming place for everyone; parents with their sons, college students and men who want to get an amazing shave or haircut at a great price.”

Dot, who is a River City native, has had an interesting journey to becoming a barber. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, right after her studies at Jamestown Community College where she earn an Associate of Science Degree in Business Management. As a licensed Cosmetologist, Dot has mastered excellent customer services skills with over 12 years of professional experience includes barbering services for various local theaters which includes the Richmond Ballet, weddings, local model photo shoots, where she learned how to cut all kinds of hair textures whether curly, very straight, or wiry.

The shop has online resources in place, such as a website and has a social media presence on Twitter and Facebook. Refuge For Men has their own mobile application available in the app stores, easy to book appointments. Opened May 2010, Refuge For Men was started by Richmond naive and master stylist Dot Reid, whose vision was to create her salon that was like getting a haircut in a man cave with the comforts of home, sports on TV, good music, a game of Billiards or Corn Hole; her vision is finally here for all to see. Richmond’s Men and Boys Salon, is accredited with the Better Business Bureau and active in their community supporting various non-profit organizations and sponsorship with local sports teams such as the Richmond Flying Squirrels and Bullmoose Softball.
