Ford of Murfreesboro announces exceed EcoBoost target
Ford is reportedly on track to sell 1.6 million of these forced-induction vehicles in 2013, a full 100,000 units more than it had previously estimated.
Like almost every other automaker these days, Ford is having a tough time in Europe right now, and here in the States, its per-share stock price is lagging, but that isn't stopping the automaker from exceeding some of its goals. The Detroit Free Press reports that sales of the company's EcoBoost turbocharged and direct-injected engines are going beyond expectations. The Blue Oval's signature powerplants have made it to a wide variety of Ford and Lincoln products, from larger vehicles like the Explorer, Taurus and MKT to smaller models like the new Escape and Focus ST.
The smaller, more efficient EcoBoost powerplants will make the Ford lineup more efficient and a program to cut down the amount of platforms the automaker uses globally is helping to trim costs. Ford product development chief Raj Nair claims that the automaker is on track to clip its platforms from 22 in 2011 to 10 by 2017. The move should save Ford hundreds of millions of dollars as platform costs drop as scale increases.

Ford of Murfreesboro Says Game On!
The 2013 Ford Fusion, available soon at Ford of Murfreesboro, is more refined, top fuel economy estimates and will take Ford to the top of the midsize class.
For a few years now, the Ford Fusion has been one of America's most popular midsize sedans. Ford will be hoping to keep that trend going for 2013, as the redesigned 2013 Ford Fusion will have dramatic new styling as well as an expanded lineup that will include three different gas engines, a gas-electric hybrid and a plug-in hybrid.
The basic engine for the Fusion will be the 2.5-liter four-cylinder that carries over from the current model and makes 170 horsepower. From here, shoppers can choose between a pair of turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The economical option will be a 1.6-liter "EcoBoost" engine that will generate 179 hp and promise to deliver fuel economy estimates of 26 mpg city/37 mpg highway.
Replacing a V6 performance option for the Fusion will be a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder that will produce 237 hp and 250 pound-feet of torque. The latter will be paired with a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system for enhanced handling capabilities.
Ford will also offer two Fusion hybrid models. The Fusion Hybrid pairs the 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack, and Ford expects the hybrid to return 47 mpg in the city and 44 on the highway -- better than the Toyota Camry. The Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid, meanwhile, will also use the 2.0-liter four and electric motor for 185 combined hp and more than 100 MPGe (an efficiency standard reserved for electric vehicles and hybrids). Ford says that's better than the Chevrolet Volt's 92 MPGe or the 87 MPGe expected from the new Prius plug-in hybrid.
Underneath, the Fusion is based on a new platform that Ford says is stiffer and safer than before. Electric-assist power steering comes standard on all models as part of the car's focus on improved efficiency. A bold grille, more curvaceous sheet metal and a longer, slightly wider body give the new Fusion a sportier look than its predecessor. Technology will again be at the forefront. The 2013 Ford Fusion will offer advanced safety features typically absent in this segment, including adaptive cruise control, parking assist, blind-spot detection and lane-keeping assist, which beeps and sends feedback through the steering wheel to wandering drivers. Ford Sync and the next generation of MyFord Touch will also be offered.
The 2013 Fusion and Fusion Hybrid models go on sale this fall, while the Fusion Energi should be at dealers by the end of the year. Given that the current Fusion is still one of our favorite family sedans, the new model looks as if it will continue to be a prime choice alongside other revitalized top contenders such as the Chevrolet Malibu, Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata.

Ford of Murfreesboro Announces the 2013 Ford Focus ST
Pilots might call it the Focus with afterburners.
Ford of Murfreesboro calls it really fast.
- Ford Focus ST increases acceleration through factory “overboost” turbo feature that extends torque curve from 3,000 rpm to 4,500 rpm for up to 15 seconds
- Turbo tuned to decrease response time and increase power throughout rev range
- Ford confirms the Focus ST’s SAE-certified engine output of 252 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. torque from efficient 2.0-liter EcoBoost® engine with low-inertia turbocharger
The new Ford Focus ST features a four-cylinder, direct-injected turbocharged engine with an “overboost” feature that extends peak torque for up to 15 seconds at a time. The gains extend the peak torque from 3,000 rpm to 4,500 rpm, whereas other EcoBoost® engines would hit peak torque and begin to drop off at these higher engine speeds. This is the first overboosted Ford EcoBoost engine sold in North America.
Ford engineers made sure the overclocked EcoBoost 2.0-liter would have a very robust cooling system. “The turbo itself is specified for sustained, high-output performance, but they’ve programmed the car’s computer to dial in more boost past 3,000 rpm to give it that extra something,” says engineer Lisa Schoder, who is Marketing manager for Focus ST. “We limit peak turbo boost to maintain a wide margin of safety and durability over the life of the car,” Schoder adds. “But overboost is cool in that it tweaks more acceleration through the turbo for brief periods for performance-hungry drivers.”
Among the more visible options will be the Tangerine Scream metallic color that will be offered exclusively on Focus ST, as well as race-inspired Recaro® seats with matching color accents. Ford is offering drivers who preorder a Focus ST the GoPro® HD Hero2 Motorsports Edition camera pack upon delivery. Already a staple in the motorsports and action sports communities, GoPro is the ideal camera to capture a spirited drive or Focus ST track day. The first 1,000 presale orders placed between May 1 and Aug. 20 are eligible for the GoPro HD Hero2 camera. The cameras will be sent after vehicle delivery.
