Thursday, October 27, 6:00 p.m. - Program of the Des Moines Historical Society about Notables - Famous Names Associated with Des Moines.  These will be surprising stories, not the familiar stories of Cloris Leachman and Roger Williams.  You will be surprised.  The  business meeting follows the program, at 7:00 p.m.  At the Iowa Genealogical Society - 624 E. Grand - across from the State Historical Building.  Parking is available in the lot on the NW corner of E. Grand&Pennsylvania.

DM NOTABLES - Thurs., Oct. 27, 6:00 p.m. - Nationally known residents

DES MOINES NOTABLES - The quarterly program and meeting of the Des Moines Historical Society will be Thursday, October 15, at 6:00 at the Iowa Genealogical Society, 628 E. Grand. 

The program at 6:00 p.m. will be about 'Des Moines Notables,' the nationally and internationally known people (and things) that once resided in Des Moines and 'hit the big time.' 

The business meeting will begin about 7:00.  Light refreshments will be provided.  Parking is available in the ramp to the east at Pennsylvania&East Grand.

OPEN CABIN, Saturday, October 15 from 10:00 a.m. - NOON

Join the Des Moines Historical Society to wish all of us a Happy Birthday. The town of Fort Des Moines, the name was later shorted to just 'Des Moines' is 160. To celebrate this anniversary the Des Moines Birhplace/Fort Des Moines II Memorial Cabin will have an 'Open Cabin' on Saturday, October 15 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. The cabin is at 1st/Water Street&M. L. King, Jr. Blvd. by Sec Taylor Field & the new bridge over the DM River. There will be a cake & other refreshments & information about the early years of our city.
