Updates & tips from Carmichael Piano Lessons

Give the gift of music!

As a full-time music instructor since 1998, I am continually reminded of the joy that music brings to everyday life.  I am still awestruck on a daily basis by the smiles of students who are pleased with a newly learned song or a newly developed skill at the piano.  Or the very shy child who becomes increasingly confident as they discover their own musical talent and a way to express themselves in ways they never imagined.  I believe that music is a gift and a blessing from our Creator for us all to enjoy!

Music lessons are truly the gift that keeps on giving.  Besides the pure joy of learning to express one's self musically, music lessons provide a whole array of added benefits--including but not limited to:
  • improved overall learning skills
  • self-discipline
  • coping skills
  • enhanced creative skills
  • increased motor-control and hand-eye coordination
  • social skills
  • self-confidence
...and that's just off the top of my head--the list could go on.  As a music teacher, I am often asked by parents which instrument is the best 'starter' instrument.  I believe the answer to that question is the piano.  Not just because I am a piano teacher--I also play guitar and have a great love of all stringed instruments.  Piano involves both hands, involves both treble and bass clef reading development and doesn't require quite as much fine motor skill for a young child or beginner to elicit sound from the instrument.  Those of you who play strings, woodwinds, brass instruments and even drums, know exactly what I am talking about.  Anybody can simply walk up to a piano, press down any one of 88-keys, and a lovely sound springs forth.   It's also much easier to visualize notes and patterns on the piano as compared to most other instruments.  I could go on, but time is short and I suspect you get the idea.

Invest in someone you love today (maybe even, yourself!) by presenting them with the gift of music.  You'll be glad you did.

National Piano Playing Event 4/30/09

The National Piano Playing Auditions are conducted by the National Guild of Piano Teachers, a division of the American College of Musicians.  Robyn McLaughlin is a member teacher, currently listed on the Guild's Teacher Honor Roll.

Guild Auditions are held annually in cities all over the U.S. and abroad.  Student participation is optional but gently encouraged to help establish good practice habits and annual, achievable goals at the piano.  Students participating successfully receive a detailed report card, certificate and pins to commemorate the event.  The Guild has programs and special awards for all levels of piano playing from Beginner all the way through High School Diploma, Collegiate and Performing Artist.

This year, 23 Carmichael Music Studio students have chosen to  participate and have been practicing like crazy for the event.  Good luck to everyone...keep practicing!

For information on piano lessons, contact Robyn (916) 715-0202.
