Help! I think I found termites!
Concerned homeowners tend to call me when they're having work done on their homes. What happens is that a contractor or a do-it-yourselfer removes old wood and finds damage or bugs inside. The sometimes frantic homeowner tries to explain what they found, but explanations alone are not always enough; sometimes an expert eye needs to look at the situation.
It could be live termites or inactive termite damage. Maybe it's wood rot with ants, pill bugs, or earwigs living inside. It's always a good idea to have a professional check it out—the last thing you want to do is to renovate a section of your home right on top of active termites.
If you notice something strange or if you're unsure, give a professional (or two or three) a call. If the diagnosis is "termites," seek out a second or third opinion to avoid being taken advantage of. Many times, I won't charge to take a look at a problem area since it usually doesn't take very long. Best case, you'll find out that it's not termites after all—and that you saved yourself time, hassle, and money.

Other companies don't answer phones, or send out paycheck employees who don't really give a hoot and can only use their allotted thimble-ful of chemical, no matter what the job calls for.
