I made Brown belt here taught by Barry himself in 1979-1980. I was being trained to teach as well and gave public demonstrations. It was an exciting time for me being a Bruce Lee fanatic & all. I remember many full timers telling me other dojo's in town feared PHOK.
We would go down to the Salty Dog Bar occasionally on Fridays and drink the "Boot" and get in fights with locals lol (not supposed to do that). I still have all my sparring gear from then, good times. -KLT
love
I have been with the P.H.O.K for only two months and i love it the dojo is very serious about their martial arts and very precise in teaching the right techniques for any sitution.

I've been to three seperate dojos in the past 10 years and Bernsten's Phoenix House of Karate by far surpasses the other two. The environment is one of students and instructors that take their martial arts very serious. It's one of a kind in the nation for several reasons. Being open 24 hours a day Monday thru Saturday and being able to get a lesson anytime during the day by calling one hour in advance. The hours I spent down there have made me a well rounded individual and increased my wisdom to new levels. I'm thankful for being a part of the Bernsten crew.

Glad this place closed. I met Barry and he was drunk and tried to get me to pay $750 up front and one of his minions had meth mouth. Classy
