Keep your eyes on the register

The place has a great selection and inviting interior. The owner is great - really knows his wines and can make great recommendations. But I'm giving them 3 stars because of a problem I've had on 3 occassions (I've shopped there about 6 or 7 times in the last few months). The register does not always ring up the price listed on the shelf, and of course it's never in the customer's favor. The first time it was a $2 difference on one of the bottles and I didn't say anything - not a big deal. The second time I didn't notice until I got home and looked at the receipt (I was busy chatting with my friend while at the register) and it was a $1 difference. The third time was last week - a clerk was giving samples of 2 rums they were pushing. She told me they were $10.99 each. I liked one of them and bought it after confirming the price again. Well, it rang up $12.99! I wasn't going to let this one go. I pointed it out to the clerk, who had struggled for a good 5 minutes to figure out how to correct the price. I cannot tell you how frustrating this was. I mean, come on, the clerk doesn't know how to correct a price?? He finally just put in a discount and it knocked off the $2. I don't know if this recurring problem is due to sloppy inventory or something more sinister, but either way, I'm not shopping here anymore. It's a shame because I try to support local businesses; but not when they're cheating their customers. It's back to Trader Joe's wine store in Union Square for me! \t\n\t\nIf you want to shop here, just be forewarned that there's a good chance you'll be overcharged and so you should keep your eyes on the register.
