Great reviews in 2012

The way I understand it, this community was purchased by Watermark from Sunrise and has been on the up and up ever since. Watermark has poured money into the community (totally remodeling the skilled nursing and independent living buildings) and staffed above the state regulations. I recommend doing your research on any facility, but in doing so definitely tour the community and see for yourself. I think you will be pleased at the caring spirit of the staff and the quality of care.\t\n

Not great service in 2011

We recently had my elderly parent in the Springs Skilled Nursing facility at Fountains for physical therapy after a fall and a week in a hospital bed. They've recently been bought by Watermark Communities, so earlier reviews may reflect previous ownership/management.\t\n\t\nThe place looks great - a million-dollar renovation was just finishing up (although whoever did the redesign doesn't appear to be skilled in space planning/furnishing for such a facility and its clients).\t\n\t\nHOWEVER, we felt the upper management was less than communicative with us about a treatment plan and progress updates. Every phone call we placed went to voicemail. The Nursing Director emailed and said we could reach her anytime, but calls were returned by her assistant, and she didn't have the information we needed in front of her. The PT group (a contracted company named "Endura") was staffed by assistants, not actual PT's, and did a poor job of evaluating needs and paying attention to patients during therapy sessions. The WORST part is that their call button system has serious problems! I don't know if attendants simply ignored calls or if they had no idea emergency buttons were being pushed. In such a facility that is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE!\t\n\t\nMy parent ended up in worse shape after 3 weeks there, so we chose early discharge back to the assisted living facility which provides better care. We DID have a couple of good nurses and CNA's, thankfully, but that doesn't make up for the poor management staff. I would not choose this facility again or recommend it to anyone.\t\n

I had to rate it with one star or they wouldn't let me review...

This establishment, which merely houses frail and elderly individuals who cannot care for themselves, is a disgrace. It?s dirty, unmanaged and an unhealthy living environment for anyone! \t\n\t\nThe staff is unskilled, uncaring, and unbelievable. The nursing administrator might be one of two individuals who really are capable of making conscientious decisions regarding patient care, but she is one of two on staff.\t\n\t\nAside from the fact that the staff is continually on cell phones, and the weekend ?crew? is much LESS caring than those who work during the week, overall the employees continually ignore the comfort and care of the patients in their charge. The nonchalant attitude that permeates inside the walls of this facility is overwhelming. Instead of focusing on the needs of those they are paid to care for, there is a cloak of incompetency and indifference that flows through the facility, and swells through most of the nursing and other staff.\t\n\t\nWithout going into specifics, suffice it to say, that the care extended at Canterbury is not care, but merely an adult corral for those who cannot attend to their own needs. I am appalled by the experiences my mother has had to endure. I am also sickened by the care others at Canterbury receive. \t\n\t\nBefore placing anyone at this facility, please check out other better managed, more caring facilities that would make this transition less heartbreaking. Do not make Canterbury even a choice for your family member!
