About Livingston, NJ
Livingston is a part of Essex County of New Jersey, and is named for New Jersey's first governor William Livingston who was in office from 1776 to 1790. Livingston proudly boasts of historic sites like Wad-Force House and Condit Family Cookhouse, which were built in the 18th century.
The New Jersey Ballet, one of the state's premier ballet companies that is known for its outstanding performances around the world, is located in Livingston.
Livingston is steeped in history, yet its 400+ acres of lush parks also have plenty to offer nature lovers and hikers. One such park is Riker Hill Park which includes Riker Hill Art Park and a multitude of arts and crafts studios. Also here is Riker Hill Fossil Site (known as Walter Kidde Dinosaur Park) which is a site of palentological interest to the visitor.
Amongst notables from Livingston is Livingston High School graduate Roger Y. Tsien who shared the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2008.
