Happy Every Time
I had a family heirloom that I was loathe to let anyone "play with" even though it was showing signs of wear and tear. But when it ended up breaking, I asked Bill to take a look at it. He and his guys were able to restore it beautifully, so that you can't even tell it had been in pieces earlier! Since then, he's worked on other projects for me, and I've been happy every time!

Oakley Restoration did a fabulous job of completely restoring my antique dining set. They were great to work with and did the job for what they quoted. I highly recommend them.

How to become a smart furniture shopper.
What's the real truth about furniture quality today? What furniture manufacturers don't want you to know…"Don't believe everything you're told and only half of what you see" I'll bet that that you've heard a version of that line before and I can tell you that it applies to buying and caring for furniture too!Over the 20 plus years of my experience restoring, repairing, finishing and making furniture I have developed an understanding of what quality is and how it can not only save you a lot of ... I get asked "How much is my furniture worth?" so many times every week that I thought I should try and give this a quick and "easy" answer! I guess that I'm trying to simplify a more complex subject, but here goes. The first thing I ask anyone wanting to know the value of something is, " why do you want to know what it's worth?" I ask this first because there are several different "levels of value" for any item. One level is the"replacement cost"(or value). This is what it would cost to... An important thing to learn which will help determine if a piece of furniture is an older "antique" is if a dovetail drawer joint was cut by hand or by a machine. It's fairly easy to tell the difference with a quick look at them. A machine cut dovetail drawer has evenly spaced pins and tails, all looking the same. The earliest machine cut dovetail joints were at the end of the 19th century and are common on much of todays furniture. On the other hand, a hand cut dovetail joint has a finer, th... By on November 06, 2011I have an Ethan Allen dinningroom chair (cherry) that has an arm that needs to be repaired. What would be an estimate for this tye pf repair?
By on June 17, 2010Hi Jeanne, The price will depend upon how bad the break is. If we need to add wood, which thens needs to be colored and finished to match the existing, it would take more time and cost more. I would say the range would be from as low as $60 to $150 if there is several hours work. If you want to bring the chair in to the shop on Monday, I should be there most of the day. If not see Nathan and he will help you. Best regards, Bill Oakley
