About Georgetown, KY
The city of Georgetown, named after George Washington, is located on Elkhorn Creek in the Bluegrass region in Scott County, Kentucky, in the Lexington-Fayette metro area. Major attractions include the Georgetown & Scott County Museum, which has exhibits and programs that celebrate community history and Ward Hall, and Antebellum Greek Revival mansion. Each year the Scott County Fair (June), the Kite & Culture Festival (April), the Festival of the Horse (Oct.), the Old Fashioned Bluegrass Day (Sept.) the Whispering Woods Wild West Weekend (May), Arts in the Park (July) and the Harvest Celebration (Oct.) are held here. The biggest school here is Georgetown College, a Christian, liberal arts college. One of the best places to visit when you are in Georgetown is the nearby Fort Boonesborough State Park, where you'll find a reconstructed fort with blockhouses, cabins and period furnishings as well as a museum, camping, fishing, pool, trail, miniature golf and a picnic area. Notable residents of Georgetown have included politicians, J. Campbell Cantrill and William H. Hatch.
