Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

When the LDS Church told it's members to send money in excess of $20m dollars to the Defeat of Proposition 8 in California taking away the civil rights of people as they suggested when the African-American were in line to get their civil rights they crossed the line of separation of Church and State again. I fail to understand how someone can call themselves compassionate people and in the same breath take away civil rights. I think one would call that a hypocrisy. Again this church stuck it nose where it didn't belong.
