Terrible Customer Service
I haven't been to Akers in years but the time I went, they had the best people working in the ice cream parlor. Very polite, courteous, very welcoming. I have been wanting to go back but just never had the time to make the drive from Crestview. I was coming back from a canoeing trip in Milton and was very much looking forward to stopping in on my way back to town to buy some of their delicious strawberry ice cream to end the day with. I drove by and still saw several cars parked out front so we pulled up right in front of the parlor which still had an open sign in plain view. I didn't see any signs that showed the hours of operation, but there were clearly people sitting inside so I got out ( I was only wearing a shirt and bathing suit from leaving the river) I only took a minute getting some shorts on and walked in only to be greeted with a "We're closed." from someone as he walked away with his back turned to me. A bit disgruntled, I returned to my car, looked at the clock which said 4:58 pm then looked back at their shop window which NOW showed a closed sign. I was livid. Especially, now that I'm home, I decided to look up their hours of operation - They close at 5 pm. All I wanted was some ice cream, which could have easily been served and paid for within 2 minutes but instead I got rude customer service from an impatient employee who wanted to close up early. If he thought I were there to pick strawberries.. it would have only taken a second to ask at which point he could have then advised me of business hours. I'm debating whether I'll ever go back again at this point. I've never been there to actually pick strawberries but had thought about going until now. For anyone else, just make sure you get there well before 5 otherwise they'll probably refuse your business too.

It's a farm. You can't have everything. City Slickers expect it to be like the grocery store. I was out there last Sat, and picked some beautiful berries. Mother Nature has been too abundant with the rain. A little too much water, but the berries are great. Spent a very pleasant afternoon.

I noticed someone complained about the high grass. I was out there Friday, and found a TON of delicious dark red, ripe strawberries bursting with flavor and juices, even under the high grassy areas. You may have to walk a little farther down the marked aisles, but there are tons of fat juicy fruits to be found!
My best friend and I took her four kids, her 6 daycare kids, her Mom, her two nephews, my daughter & my daughter's boyfriend to Akers of Strawberries. We spent half an hour picking three huge buckets of fruit, then enjoyed frozen yogurts and strawberry shortcakes. Absolutely delicious, and great fun!
