The importance of Wheelchair Ramps

Access ramps for disabled individuals or individuals with limited mobility are one of the most common provisions made by building owners. These ramps serve as assistive mobility devices and are very useful for people using wheelchairs or other mobility aids. If it wasn't for the access ramps, individuals in wheelchairs wouldn't be able to access a lot of places. Ramps such as these make it easier for individuals with disabilities to live independently. This is why many people decide to install wheelchair ramps in the homes for themselves or their loved once.  In order to ensure that the ramp is absolutely safe to use it is important to follow ADA standards for wheelchair ramps.  The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has laid down the following standards for wheelchair ramps: 1. Wheelchair ramps should have a slope of at least 1:12 ratio between height and length. 2. Ramps should have a clear width of at least 36 inches. 3. For every 30 feet of ramp run, there should be one level landing. 4. Wheelchair ramps that are more than 6 inches high or more than 6 feet in length must have a handrail on either side of the ramp. 5. Top of the handrail needs to be a minimum of 34 inches from the ramp floor, with 38 inches being the maximum height allowed. For full and detailed ADA requirements please visit the following site: http://www.a1-wheelchair-ramps.com/info/ada-wheelchair-ramps-html Here at Safety One Specialty transport we really appreciate access ramps. They really are great in providing easy mobility for our clients as well as employees. Wheelchair ramps have made a lot of entertainment and travel options in easy reach for the many disabled individuals that we serve. People do not need to think twice before visiting public places, airports or malls as special attention is being given to accommodate their special needs. However, while working with individuals with disabilities, Safety One Specialty employees have noticed one thing: a lot of places, such as stores and even medical buildings, don't have the handicapped door openers installed. This makes it very difficult for a person in a wheelchair to open the door as they are pushing themselves. In fact, it makes it very difficult even for our employees to open and hold the door as they are pushing a person in a wheelchair. We have noticed that often people in wheelchairs have to rely on store employees or bypassers to open the door for them. This causes a lot of frustration and does not seem to be fair to the people with limited mobility. This is why we believe that special attention needs to be brought to the owners of buildings that do not provide the handicap door opener button or automatic doors. We realize that not everyone is aware of this problem and our mission is to make the public more aware of it in order to make lives of people with disabilities a little easier.  As always, we are committed to providing safe, affordable and convenient wheelchair transportation to you or your loved once 24/7 including holidays. We offer best prices and superior service, guaranteed! "Getting there" which questions should you ask?

Private transportation companies often provide programs or packages that fit the needs of the passenger, whether it is wheelchair transportation or ambulatory transportation they need. In order to determine which company is right for you may want to ask the following  10 questions: What ride destinations are provided? What is the cost? What hours does the service run? How long in advance should I call for a ride? Are there geographic limits to where you provide service? Is there any assistance available to people with physical or other health constraints? Is there assistance for people with bags, oxygen tank, packages, etc.? Is pre-registration with the service required? Are wheelchair lifts available? Can companions accompany the person on the service? These 10 questions will allow you to more easily chose the method of transportation for you or your loved one. Please keep in mind that it is important to be able to speak to a helpful operator 24/7 if needed.  If you have any questions about disability or elderly transportation please give us a call. We at Safety One Specialty Transport are committed to your comfort and safety and want you to be able to speak to us easily any time and any day! It is always a good idea to shop around before deciding on which transportation service to use. If you need help deciding which transportation method to use, go ahead and call us at 360-718-1944, or email us at ride@sos-transport.com, you can also visit us on the web at www.sos-transport.com Sincerely, Safety One Specialty Transport "Your friend in transportation" 360-718-1944 www.sos-transport.com ...read more
