AtHome America joined forces with Oprah Winfrey by donating $10,000 to the Harrell family from Bedford, Indiana. They lost everything in a house fire this past January. The donation is part of an Oprah Winfrey Show challenge, an extension of Oprah's Big Give television show, to raise as much money for the family as possible in just one week. AtHome America made the second — largest corporate donation! This donation supports our Mission to change America one heart, one home and one family at a time. HomeStyle Specialist Joni Combs from Bedford, Indiana, understands our mission! She called AtHome's ProTeam to share about this wonderful opportunity to help the Harrells, and see if the company would like to participate! "When we were made aware of the Harrell's heartfelt story, and of Oprah's challenge to raise money for the family, that was it! We immediately went into action to reach out and donate $10,000 to help the Harrells decorate their new home," says Lisa Brandau, Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of AtHome America." It is truly an honor and a privilege to help them rebuild their lives. It was simply the right thing to do!" The outpouring of support for the family all began when Shelley Fleetwood, a former classmate of mom Missy Harrell, answered a call out from The Oprah Winfrey Show for people to nominate individuals from their communities to be Big Give recipients. AtHome called Shelley late on March 7, to let her know of the donation. Two of our AtHome Team members immediately jumped into the company truck and headed for Indiana, to join the taping of a segment of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Five hours later, driving through a snowstorm, the AtHome Team made it to the presentation, just as the family was arriving for the show! It was there that the family was presented with hundreds of donations. AtHome America presented a gorgeous gift basket to the Harrell family and a $10,000 gift certificate to select the HomeWares of their choice. The community was amazed that we were willing to send our Team members such a far distance! "I was amazed at the generously of AtHome America! I could not believe that a company who did not even know the Harrell's was willing to donate $10,000!" says Shelley. With the help of AtHome America, and other companies, Shelley was able to raise $134,000 for the Harrell family!
