They are a professional real estate rip off company. They have discovered there is a market in robbing small business clients that are not used to blatant verbal lies and small print contracts with incredible terms. Give them your credit card to pay any bill and you must sign an agreement saying they can charge anything they want to your card and you cannot contest the charge. Imagine this. How about $750 if you want your phone number transferred after you leave? And the list never ends. After you leave you will receive months of additional invoices for things you never imagined. We purchased our first Brookfield home in California. Wonderful! Upon moving to the DC area we were thrilled to find that the Saranac developement was also a Brookfield project. What a letdown. We were the only house under construction at the time, and yet there seemed to be little if any supervision of the job. Appliances were poorly positioned so as to allow mere 22 inch passageways, plumbing was poorly done causing leaks inside walls and from fire sprinkler head, concrete forms for walkway were scrap lumber, all concrete is now crumbling on walkways and on foundation, hardwood floors and stairway were to be stained a cherry brown but the stairway was a light tan, drywall is crumbling and will not hold ANY type of anchor, sod was laid over gravel and roofing fabric, gravel was used to backfill around foundation which causes quite a bit of drainage directly to the foundation and beneath, during construction floors were strewn with cigarette and cigar butts, urine-filled bottles were strewn about the exterior, workers urinated into sump-pump drain, I could go on, but I think you should get the point. I would advise finding another vendor if you are looking at having a house built. The Brookfield homes have a nice design, but the Brookfield Washington Production arm is a very poor entity to place any trust in. I would not recommend this company as a builder for such a personal commodity as a home. Their incompetence is only outdone by their ignorance of the poor construction bearing the Brookfield name. We used Karen and found her to be lackluster, uncommunicative and generally not helpful. She sells you on her amazing skill, but when it's time to see the results, she doesn't have follow through (blames it on staff) and is defensive. One of the worst experiences we have every had renting. We are now Landlords ourselves and have learnt the value of better property management. They kept money from the previous tenants who left the property immaculate and never carried out the work for which they withheld the deposit. I was so happy to find Mr Ray. I wanted to get to the root of persistent musty smells in my house as well as look for any reason for recurring respiratory infections in myself and my pets. Mr Ray responded quickly to my inquiry and started work very soon thereafter. His work was thorough and report meticulous and very helpful. His price was exactly what he had quoted (which was a very fair one) . I received the aforementioned report both by email with a follow-up hard copy in record time. It is very hard to find air quality inspectors for a residence and Mr Ray has no conflict of interest ito what he finds,ie,he is not involved in whatever removal process a client wishes to obtain. ...read more
