Mountain View Eye Center

5.0

By Edora

Dr. Bowman at the Mountain View Eye Center ended up being my choice for Lasik/PRK. After a really bad experience at the Mount Ogden Eye Clinic, (see review) I decided to see at least two other Dr.’s before making a choice. Dr. Bowman’s staff was so friendly. The receptionist who made my appointment sent out paperwork in the mail so I could bring it in with me. The wonderful lady who ran the tests to check on my corneas, my prescription, my eyeglass prescription, and finally an eye exam was so friendly and nice she blew me away. Then Dr. Bowman met with me personally. That meant a lot. I planned on Lasik but after a full eye exam he suggested PRK since I'm at 600/20. It was a very long recovery, almost three weeks before I could see 20/20 but I'm glad he looked at my eyes and honestly gave me his recommendation. I've since changed Dr. Bowman to be my main eye doctor and really enjoy how nice and friendly his staff is. Thank you Mountain View Eye Center for fixing my eyes! ...read more

Addressing the Unspoken: Talking To Your Teen About Their Trauma

Talking to your teen about trauma can feel overwhelming and difficult. Even if you have not experienced trauma yourself, you can understand how one probably does not want to talk about the things that have hurt them or scarred them in the past. It can cause all of the negative emotions to resurface. Your teen should never feel pressured to talk about their trauma. Some reasons to consider why one may not want to talk about their trauma include: Denial of the trauma: the natural response towards trauma is to try and remove all memory of it and pretend it didn’t happen. Survival: Sometimes individuals think no one will believe them or speaking their truth will come at a cost. The unspeakable nature of trauma: Trauma often represents the violation of all we hold to be dear and sacred therefore individuals do not want to open up about it.  The hostile culture: Naturally, trauma victims will feel cautious about disclosing their trauma history because of the cultural response. Why You Should Be Talking To Your Teen About Their Trauma The reasons why it is important to talk to your teen about trauma have recently been put on display by researchers. In a nutshell- Traumatic thoughts and memories that remain “unspeakable” or “unthinkable” for too long often impede our brain’s natural process of recovery after trauma. As a parent you may feel uncomfortable trying to open this conversation with your teen. However, therapy is a great way to open that door. Outwardly talking about trauma memories in this fashion does not make symptoms worse. When it is done with the help of a skilled therapist, PTSD symptoms have been shown to improve. As a parent, here are some tips on how you can give your teen the best support: Show them love and care. Let them know you are always there for them so they feel comfortable talking to you. Find resources available to help your teen cope with their trauma. Allow them appropriate “breathing room”. Ask a skilled professional what you can do to meet your teen’s unique needs Solstice West RTC Can Help Solstice West RTC is a program for young girls ages 14-18 who struggle with issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and/or relationship struggles.
