Law Offices of L Mark Grace

In my opinion and recent experience, there are a sea of attorneys on the market, don't get shipwrecked with Grace Law Office. Spoke with Attorney Grace 2-3 times about handling my traffic violations. We agreed to a price and the next step was for him to send a letter of representation to the court and an invoice to me. Neither happened. He advised me the process takes time and I shouldn't hear from him for 5-6 weeks. A few weeks later I got a warrant in the mail. I tried to reach Attorney Grace many times via telephone, email, mail and even filed a grievance against him. I never heard from him - ever. Now I have the cost and aggravation of a warrant added to my original problem. I would suggest you stay away unless you want your problems magnified. I wish we could write a review with zero stars - or in this case negative stars!!! ...read more

Texas Workplaces - Deathtraps, Texas Workplace Deaths

As I read the newspaper today, I found anarticleabout the fertilizer plan explosion in West, Texas and the number of workplace deaths in Texas. Did you know that Texas leads the nation in workplace fatalities?  Did you know that Texas has more than 400 workplace deaths every year since 1995?  Can you believe that?!?!?  How are people not outraged? Texas has laws that are very friendly to employers, not so friendly to employees.  People often refer to Texas as a “right to work” state, however, based on the numbers posted above, I think Texas sounds more like a “right to die while at work” state.  During the years 1995-2011, Texas has led the nation in workplace fatalities more times than any other state. It just seems counterintuitive to me, but we kill the people who are actually out there working hard to get the job done, while the guys who are getting paid the most are sitting inside, never even getting dirt under their fingernails.  Something is backwards.  To make matters worse, Texas actually changed some laws to make sure that big companies do not have to pay when they cause the death of a worker in a lot of instances.  Just goes to show you, in corporate Texas, the health and safety of the worker doesn’t even fit into the equation. Everything I’ve said in here can be backed up.  If you don’t believe me, take a look: Chart of Workplace Fatalities by State Laws Relating to Texas Workers If you or someone you know needs help, give us a call.  We will be glad to help….It’s what we do. A Return to Days of Yesteryear...

While reading the paper today, I stumbled across an interesting article in West Texas newspaper. The article discusses how TxDOT is “unpaving” some roads in South Texas (in theEagle Ford Shale) due to the destruction that energy sector trucks have caused. You can read the article for yourself, here. It appears that the state is going back to gravel roads. Sometimes I wonder about the decision making process used in coming to these decisions. They cite a lower speed limit on gravel roads as making it safer. However, even if the speed limit is lowered, is that going to stop these commercial vehicles from speeding? Or, given the loose nature of gravel, is it just going to increase the time it takes a speeding 18-wheeler to stop? Even if the speed limit is 30, an 18-wheeler hit at 30 mph is still fatal. Furthermore, 18-wheelers can handle the daily abuse of gravel roads much better than everyday family vehicles. So who is the real winner here? The State. The article mentions “load posting,” wherein vehicles over a certain weight are prohibited from traveling on certain roads. However, this can be circumvented with a permit, which the state will undoubtedly charge for. So, the state is going to make the roads more dangerous, and make a profit by charging commercial vehicles to travel on said roads, while converting paved roads into gravel roads (which are cheaper to build and maintain). Winner winner TxDOT. It’s dangerous out there folks. Be careful. If care fails and you need help, give me a call. We specialize incommercial motor vehicle crashes.
