The Importance of Signs

Are you looking for a way to liven up your business or attract attention to your storefront? Have you considered new signs, banners, or posters for your business? If not, then maybe it’s time you consider updating signs in and around your business to help improve your image and attract new customers. What do signs matter? First and foremost, signage develops your business’ brand and image in the eyes of your customers. Dirty, faded, or run-down signs damage your business’ appearance and make it appear uncared for and poorly managed, while vibrant, crisp signs present an appealing image of a well-run business. As such, it is important to replace old signs as they wear out or fade, so that the image your business projects is always its best. As you think about updating your signs or getting new ones, it is important to keep in mind that signs outside and inside your business serve slightly different purposes. Signs outside your business increase visibility to potential customers and help draw them in. They are critical because they influence potential customers’ first impression of your business and can differentiate your business from surrounding businesses and competition.  Because their primary purpose is to draw customers into your business and, outdoor signs should be vibrant, to make them noticeable, and any text should be large enough to be easily readable from a distance. Signs inside your business may have several different purposes - to provide information, advertise a particular product or service that customers may not be aware of, or develop your brand. While indoor signs may serve different purposes, it is important that they appear related and present a cohesive business image. To achieve this, signs should use the same fonts and similar colors and styles, though this can be adjusted as necessary for each sign to achieve its specific purpose. As with outdoor signs, indoor signs should be visually appealing and have text large enough to be easily read by customers. Attractive signs, inside and outside your business, improve your business’ image and help attract customers. So, whether you’re looking for a way to liven up your business, attract more attention, or update faded signs, the strategists and graphic experts at FASTSIGNS in South Arlington can help you through the process of getting new signs so that you can quickly begin to reap the benefits that good signage provides  ...read more

10 Steps on Hiring the Right DJ

I have spent a great deal of my life performing in front of a live audience as and MC and DJ.  Most of the events I have done were corporate events or weddings of 100 or more guests.  The one thing that still amazes me to this day is the fact that people hiring a DJ don't do enough research to find the right DJ for their event. I know this because on numerous occasions my clients, at the end of the evening, are so thankful and amazed at my work.  I am not saying I make tigers fly but their reaction is due to two factors.  One, they had either seen a "bad" DJ, or two, they had hired a "bad" DJ in the past.  That is why I am writing this guide. Finding the "right" DJ can be a challenge but if this is your first time to hire a DJ, you came to the right space. Here are some very helpful tips for hiring the "right" disc jockey (DJ) for your event! Step 1: Treat this process for what it is, an interview for an important job. Phone interview: call as many disc jockeys as you can and see how many DJs return your call. DJs may be plentiful but many may not be able to handle or may not be interested in your party or wedding for various reasons including location of venue or availability. Step 2: Contact as many DJs as possible. There are several website that have listings for DJs in your area.  This step helps you determine the going rate for a professional DJ in your area. Step 3: Don't just ask for price. Ask each DJ if they can accommodate the type of event you are planning with the styles of music you and your guests will enjoy. If your event has more than 250 guests, make sure the DJ has a sound system to handle the room size for your party or wedding. Ask questions important to you to help narrow down your search to three disc jockeys. Your questions should include their years of experience, equipment capacity (professional grade and back up equipment), back personnel, their emergency procedure, what specifically is included with their price, any customize-able features, their music library, their set-up time, their attire for your event, and his/ her level of commitment to be on time. Step 4: Request a contract and references from your top three disc jockeys you have selected and read it carefully.  Step 5: Call all three references for each of your top three DJs and check their reviews on the Internet. Step 6: Build an agenda or itinerary. If the DJ does not already have a formal agenda, build one to fit your needs so their is no confusion or details left out. Step 7: In person interview.  Meet your top two or three disc jockeys and ask each of them questions about how they will handle the details of your event. Go over the contract with the DJ and the details on their set up requirements. You may even want to meet up with the DJ at his next event.  Make sure the DJ you meet is the DJ performing at your party or wedding! Step 8: Book early!  A premiere or popular DJ will get dates booked three to six months in advance, especially if the DJ is an experienced Master of Ceremonies or MC.  An experienced MC can make all of your formal announcements and keep the event flowing at a good pace to avoid guests being bored and minimize your stress. Step 9: Evaluate and make your decision on your DJ.  Don't make your decision just on which DJ is cheaper but which DJ brings you the most "value" or bang for your buck.  Keep in mind that an experienced DJ will be worth his /her weight in gold when something unexpected happens.  Most wedding planners spend more of their budget on food or catering than on the DJ.  However, if you have a bad or average meal, it does not have the same effect on the party or wedding as a bad or average DJ! Step 10: Follow up with your DJ / MC one week prior to your party or wedding and as often as needed. Make sure your disc jockey knows exactly what you expect from him / her.  You may also want your DJ to call the venue and confirm all his set up needs will be met when he arrives to avoid any delays in him / her setting up. Best wishes to a successful event! DJ Andrew, Managing Partner, DJ MC 21 Years of Wedding and Corporate Event Experience http://amusicwave.com ...read more
