Cancun is a coastal town where 573,000 people live, in the state of Quintana Roo, in Mexico. Playa del Carmen e' una citta' di 100.000 abitanti situata nel sud del Messico, nello stato di Quintana Roo, sulla costa Caraibica, in quella che i messicani chiamano la Riviera Maya. Questa citta' fa concorrenza a Cancun per qualita' delle spiagge e del mare, livello di intrattenimento, e per essere un'alternativa molto piu' rilassante e pacifica della rumorosa Cancun. Molte persone prenotano una vacanza a Playa del Carmen sia perche' e' una citta' turistica fantastica, sia perche' dal porto partono i traghetti per l'isola di Cozumel, dove i fondali marini sono tra i piu' meravigliosi del mondo. Cozumel e' raggiungibile tramite traghetto in 1 ora. Nonostante tutto, anche Playa del Carmen ha dei punti favolosi di immersione sub lungo la costa Maya. Le maggiori attrazioni della citta' sono i bar sulla spiaggia, che al contrario di Cancun sono molto piu' eleganti. La zona piu' trafficata e' la via chiamata Quinta Avenida, dove sono sono presenti i migliori ristoranti, bar e discoteche. Il piu' famoso gay-bar di Playa del Carmen e' Playa 69, mentre la spiaggia gay piu' famosa e' Playa Shangri-La, situata a nord della citta'. Sempre a nord di Playa del Carmen sono presenti anche molte spiagge per nudisti etero. la citta' e' vicinissima a molti siti archeologi, come il porto di Tulum, dove i reperti Maya sono tra i piu' preservati del Messico, e Chichen-Itzá, dove potrai vedere la famosissima piramide Maya (El Castillo).
