The UPS Store

1.0

By pphilipp at Citysearch

I should have realized this would be a questionable location (to send a package from) when I called for directions and felt the owner was huffy/short/irritable with his response. When we got to the store he seemed like he might be working in the wrong profession and not very pleased about his job.\t\n\t\nMy elderly mother had an old hat to mail and wanted it properly packaged, so she had the store package it before shipping. Since I work for a large company that ships several hundred products with UPS on a daily basis, I knew what would be a fair price for shipping and packaging. To both of our amazement, when the man handed us the bill, it totaled over $80.00!!! My mother is quite accustomed to people 'ripping off' the elderly so she went ahead and paid it... after all, it was already boxed (took the man 5 to 10 minutes). If it had been me, I would have pulled the hat out of the box and left.\t\n\t\nWhen asked, the UPS man said the boxing was $40 and the shipping was $40. I realize the store owner needs to earn a profit but if the company where I work had shipped a similar small, light-weight product, their cost for shipping and handling would have been far less than $20.\t\n\t\nI have only told this incident to one other person, and of all things, that person had a similar experience with the same store! They said the owner seemed quite irritable and charged a high premium as well.\t\n\t\nI would NEVER recommend this store to anyone, unless desperation forced someone to use their shipping service.\t\n\t\nPlease avoid this one. ...read more
