I finally made an appointment to have a laser peel to take off a few years...I was looking older than I feel! From the moment the customer service staff answered the phone, I knew I'd made the right choice to go with Dr. Hansen and LazaDerm Skincare Centre. The front staff was so friendly, knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable from the start. The clinic provided a private setting, Dr. Hansen was reassuring, and the procedure only took a short time. The results are awesome and I look as young as I feel. Many people in our region would like to have laser hair removal done but are not sure of where to start. Many worry about the pain, some worry about the time involved and others the cost. As the clinic that does the most laser hair removal procedures (actually all laser procedures) in our region, we have invested the most into laser options for our clients. Our latest addition is the Lumenis Duet. We have had the laser for a little over a year and our patients are very happy with it. The Lumenis 800nm laser has been available for many years and has a record of excellent results but the Duet offers a larger handpiece called the HS which stands for high speed. The biggest advantage to the HS handpiece is the speed in which you can do large areas. In the past with others lasers it may have taken 60 to 90 minutes to complete a mans back. Today with the Lumenis Duet we can complete a mans back in 20 to 30 minutes of treatment time. It also shortens up the time to complet laser hair removal on a womens legs. The second improvement with the Duet is the use of suction to pull your skin up closer to the laser. This allows the laser to be used at lower energy because the hair bulb is pulled closer and the skin is stretched out. So what does this mean to you? It means that with lower energy settings there is less discomfort. At this time, the Lumenis Duet seems to be the least uncomfortable way to achieve permanent hair reduction. Third concern for many is the cost of laser hair removal. At LazaDerm, we have invested the most into lasers for laser hair removal but yet we have continually kept our prices lower so that more can afford it. We try to keep it affordable for most. The initial concept of Zeltiq Coolsculpting came about from something sometimes called "popsicle panniculitis". This happens when a child develops loss of fat in their cheeks after exposure to the cold from a popsicle. Dr. Rox Anderson and Dr. Dieter Manstein took the initial concept and positive findings using an animal model. They learned that prolonged cooling of the skin can cause the loss of subcutaneous fat. Dr. Brian Zelickson from the University of Minnesota then confirmed the initial works by using a pig model for the research. The study showed the loss of 1cm of fat without damage to the overlying skin with one treatment. Studies then advanced to human participants conducted by Dr. Jeffrey Dover and Dr. Elizabeth Tanzi. They were able to complete a study with 28 participants over the age of 18. 27 of the 28 patients had a visible benefit. They averaged a 22.4% fat reduction in the treated area measured by ultrasound. I have talked to one of the above physicians and they have continued to use the Zeltiq. The staff also continue to have positive reviews. I have looked but have been unable to find negative studies as well as I have talked to staff from over 20 clinics and all of them have had positive reviews and all of the physicians stated they would purchase the Zeltiq again. The most important thing with the Zeltiq is patient selection. Zeltiq is not a treatment for obesity but can be used on patients close to their ideal weight that have focal areas of fat they would like to remove. The fat cells will be removed permanently. The patient must also have patience as it will take 2 to 4 months to see the fat reduction. I now have added the Zeltiq to both the Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Sioux City, Iowa / Dakota Dunes LazaDerm clinics.
