What to do about Bed Bugs?
Unless you live in a bubble you have heard or read about Bed Bugs and their come back. They are in our hotels, schools, dormitories, apartments, homes,theaters, trains, airplanes, you get the pictures they are literally everywhere. Some of these bed bugs have built up a resistance to the products we can use to eliminate them from our homes. The EPA is researching for new products that will work against the resistance but the products must be safe to use in our homes and schools. What is a person to do? Become a recluse? Have Peapod deliver but don't come within 100 yards of the front door? Never buy furniture again? Not! We have some helpful hints to keep those pesky critters away from your home. Always inspect a hotel room before settling into the room with your suitcases. The most obvious place to inspect is the head region of the mattress and box spring. Remove the sheets and check around the edges of the mattress for reddish brown markings or reddish brown bugs. Know what a bed bug looks like before traveling. Get online and google bed bug and see what they look like. These bugs can be small and almost clear in color if they haven't had a blood meal yet. When you do settle into a hotel room keep you luggage up off the floor and beds. Don't put your belongings on the floor or bed either. Also watch out for upholstered chairs or couches too. When you get home from traveling unpack your suitcases outside on the deck or patio. Wash clothes immediately and dry at a high temperature. Heat kills Bed Bugs. Brush or vacuum out the suitcases carefully with a crack&crevice; tool, Bed Bugs like to get into cracks and creases. I have left my suitcase out in the sun for the day also as an added preventative. With a little additional work you can be bed bug free.
