A few things you should do before hireing a contractor. check to see if they have a ccb # you can do this by going to this link http://www.oregon.gov/CCB/index.shtml . and click on contrators search. then type in the name of the contractor. This site is loaded with information for you the customer to look through before hiring a contractor. Also this will let you know if the contractor has insurance and is bonded. It will also help you if you run into problems. I was at the ccb one time and this person paid thier contrator money up front with out checking to see if they were an active on the ccb. The contractor took their money and did the work but things were not up to par or up to code. They tried to follow up at that point which for one they waited too long. their is a time frame to file complaints. Also the contrator was not active at the time of work. Needless to say they ate it. Don't become one of these people. And as the old saying goes IF IT'S TO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT PROBABLY IS!!!! while I hope this helps some one out their.
