Great Neck is a term that is commonly applied to a peninsula on the North Shore of Long Island Sound that includes the Village of Great Neck Plaza, The Village of Great Neck and the Village of Great Neck Estates, and six other villages. The area is pretty much a bedroom community of New York City. Major attractions here include The Parkwood pool and ice rink complex, the Village Green and King's Point Park. Students here attend the Great Neck Union Free School District. The area's two high schools are among the highest rated schools in the country. Famous people with ties to Great Neck include Olympic gold medalist Emily Hughes, author of The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald, and film director Francis Ford Coppola.
