Similar story here - I was assured by Sparta Medical Associates (SMA) that my procedure was covered by my insurance company and it was not. After numerous phone calls and appeal letters to my insurance company and SMA I am on the hook for over $5,000. SMA continues to assert that they received approval, but after reading all these complaints I now realize they must be lying. I will be contacting BBB and NJ Division of Consumer Affairs regarding this organizations business practices. ...read more

After being assured by the office that my surgery would be covered by my insurance, it ended up being denied. After endless back and forth, they also refused to lower the bill and I was charged the same as they billed the insurance. I was told by Joan in the billing dept to pay $20 of the bill to avoid finance charges until the appeal my doctor wrote to the insurance was decided upon, then I was charged finance charges and they would not waive them. 5.0 star rating 9/3/2012 Dr.Dwyer quickly diagnosed a problem within my neck, which I had thought, was in my shoulder. He informed me what the problem was, and the course of corrective action that was needed (surgery). I was a bit hesitant at first, but realized it was necessary. Dr.Dwyer took the time to explain everything that was wrong, and what he would do to fix it, and answered all my questions. My apprehension subsided, and was replaced with confidence. The operation was a complete success and I now feel like I used to. I cannot overemphasize the professional abilities of Dr.Dwyer. Dr.Dwyer has also had the fortune to surround himself with the greatest, caring, professional staff that I have ever encountered.
