It's not very often that we go to a restaurant and get surprised with less than our minimum expectations. Took my wife and two children to lunch here. Apparently it is buffet only. We were seated, the waitress got our drinks then said "go help yourselves". The food was OK, except for the stuffed pork chops that were drastically overcooked, the rolls were like eating styrofoam and the "wanna-be" souflet was a hollowed out cake with wet baker's chocolate inside. Selection was very limited. The big surprise was when we went to pay. Found out they charged $8.95 per kid (one of which couldn't eat enough to make it worth it to begin with). Then charged $1.95 for drinks. Two of the drinks as they were fountain drinks which never were refilled. The other two drinks consisted of a 12 ounce can of pop @$1.95 each. Don't get me wrong. In the middle of Norfolk. there is a building that looks like it should be torn down because of age, but no one would because it is the best restaurant in town. it has great food at decent prices. Just a warning you better be able to pay with cash or in state check, because the secret of them keeping the prices lower is they won't take credit cards. For a family of four you will pay around $20. There was a time when the place was bought up by this lady and she almost ran it into the ground. Higher prices then now and smaller portions = bad practice. luckily the original owner bought it back up and its a great place to eat again. i go there for my birthday every time i am not on vacation during it. ...read more
