H&R Block

By Professional Director at Citysearch

This was the second H&R office we visited in our area (after the first one had a rude employee... we just left). The employees here were equally as disappointing. Although they had better attitudes, they were not capable of doing our taxes. Do NOT go to this office if you have tax preparations associated with Chapter 7 bankruptcy, as well as Short Sale real estate conditions. After we were recommended to "an expert" in these matters within the office, we were confronted with an employee who not only NEVER heard of "the forgiveness clause" related to Short Sales, she also said she did not have the time to do our taxes and actually said, "they are too complicated". They recommended we go to the H&R Pine Valley Main Office because they had "professionals" there that were "more qualified" there to do our type of taxes. We were really surprised to see that these employees has no idea what they were doing in regard to a Chapter 7/Short Sale scenero. When you call to set up an appointment (at the PINE VALLEY office), give them ALL of your tax details to make sure you are fitted with the right person. We did and we were EXTREMELY satisfied with our results there. We HIGHLY recommend you just go to the Pine Valley office instead and not bother with the Myrtle Grove location all together. It was a waste of our time unfortunately. ...read more

Tax Tips for Newlyweds!!!

If you are planning a wedding or were recently married, there are some important facts you should know to help avoid stress at tax time. • Report any name change to the Social Security Administration, so your name and Social Security Number will match when you file your next tax return. • If you have a new address you should notify the IRS by sending Form 8822, Change of Address. • You should also notify the U.S. Postal Service when you move so it can forward any IRS correspondence. • Provide name and address changes to your employer(s) to make sure you receive your Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, after the end of the year. • If both you and your spouse work, your combined income may place you in a different tax bracket. You can use the IRS Withholding Calculator available on IRS.gov to assist you in determining the correct amount of withholding needed for your new filing status. The IRS Withholding Calculator will even provide you with a new Form W-4, Employee's Withholding  allowance Certificate, you can print out and give to your employer so they can withhold the correct amount from your pay. Many of the documents and forms you need are available to download on the IRS website: www.irs.gov.  ...read more

DEADLINES TO KEEP IN MIND FOR TIMELY TAX BREAKS

LIBERTY TAX REVIEWS MEASURES TO SCHEDULE BEFORE THEY EXPIRE Time is running out for taxpayers to plan and take advantage of some tax-saving breaks. Here are some tax deadlines to keep in mind:Buy a First Home before December 1, 2009 to claim the First-time Home Buyer Credit:For 2009, the repayment obligation is eliminated for taxpayers who purchased homes after December 31, 2008. The maximum value of the credit has increased to $8,000. The new measure removes the prohibition on financing by mortgage revenue bonds, and extends the availability of the credit for homes purchased before December 1, 2009. Buy a New Car by December 31, 2009.Buyers of new vehicles may be able to deduct the state and local sales and excise taxes they pay on new cars, light trucks, recreational vehicles and motorcycles through 2009, but not the interest on their car loans. Make Energy Efficient Improvements to Your Home before December 31, 2010.Some home improvements made in 2009 and 2010 to increase the energy efficiency of your home may have a silver lining at tax time. Adding insulation, energy-efficient exterior windows, and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems may qualify for a tax break. These improvements may qualify for a credit of 30% of their costs up to $1,500. Residential energy credits apply to homes, houseboats, mobile homes, condominium, and qualifying manufactured homes in which you live. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 3rd Annual "Soup for the Troops" TM Event – An Exclusive Soup Tasting November 7th, 200911:00 am – 3:00 pmEvent Field – Mayfaire Shopping Centre, Wilmington, NC Admission is FREE!
