About Fairmont, NC

Fairmont is a part of the Robeson County region/metro area of North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a population of 2,604 and it has a land area of 2.2 square miles. Fairmont began on the grounds of the Ashpole Institute and later thrived in the lumber, turpentine, and pitch industries. Ashpole also had a large tobacco industry and was known as the one of the largest tobacco markets int he world.
