Bed Bath & Beyond

1.0

By cbeterror at Citysearch

I first visited the Cary location to complete my bridal registry after heading to the Durham location and being ignored completely. \t\n\t\nI initially met with Stacy who was very helpful and professional. We first had to deal with a return of some Denby we had purchased from the Bed Bath and beyond in Tukwila, WA. The set was discontinued while we were only halfway though getting all of our pieces and I was really disappointed. The ladies in bridal were more than accomodating and issued us a credit to put toward our new bridal registry china patterns. We were very pleased with their customer service and decided to proceed with our bridal registration. We have a small guest list, but we need a lot of items. So really we were going to have to purchase most of the items ourselves, and within the past 2-3 weeks I have spent approximately 4800.00 dollars at the Cary, Fayetteville, and Durham locations, and I still needed to purchase quite a bit more.\t\n\t\nWhen I visited the store today, I had happened to find two more Denby plates hiding in my pantry. I brought them in to add them to the open stock I had initially returned (the first return had occurred about two weeks ago). As I was being checked out a man approached us and butted into the transaction (I was later told was named Gary and that he was the general manager). His first words were "I'm not taking that without a receipt". I explained that I had recently returned the exact same set to this exact same location less than two weeks prior without issue and that I had accidentally left these behind. It probably amounted to a 50.00 dollar store credit to accept them and add them to the other Denby set. Instead of being accomodating, however, he was rude. He rolled his eyes and again stated he wouldn't take them without a receipt. It's my understanding that store credits can still be issued without receipts, as I hadn't saved the original since some time had passed. I explained to him that the entire set was returned to their store without a receipt less than two weeks ago, so I didn't understand why they wouldn't simply add these to the others. His replay was "policies change" and he basically turned and walked away from me. Not having anything else to do with the two dishes, I simply left them at the store for them to add to the previously returned set.\t\n\t\nFirst of all, a manager should take the time with customers and, even if they can't give the customer what they desire, be polite about it. Secondly, when we are pumping the money we have into Bed Bath and Beyond (THOUSANDS), I would expect them to want to keep our business. At this point, I am so frustrated with the way I've been treated both at Durham and now Cary, I'm contemplating making a 4000.00 return, cancelling my registry, and heading to Macy's. I'd much rather invest my money into a store that treats their customers with respect.\t\n\t\nEven the cashier later commented about how rude and sarcastic he is and encouranged me to complain about him. So apparently my feelings about his professionalism are warranted. It's really a shame that your management is so rude considering how wonderful your bridal staff has been throughout this process.\t\n\t\nCarissa Everhart ...read more

Dans Pottery & Paintery

The staff are kind and friendly but I have been twice now and both times the owner was not nice. Also, she did not honor the 2011 CitiPass coupon the way that it is written. It states 'studio fee waived' for up to 4 people. I was there with my two kids and we made multiple (SMALL) ornaments. At checkout, she informed us that the coupon was only good for 4 ITEMS. Not what it says. That aside, she is just grouchy in general. \t\n\t\nWe will find another place to paint for sure! ...read more

Simple Solutions For an Outdated Bathroom

No Need to hide this room behind a closed door any more (unless it's in use, that is!) A little paint goes a long way in transforming an outdated and rather bland bathroom into a crisp, fresh and updated space!  The old wood cabinets were dreary and darkened the room.  By painting them bright white and adding bronzed hardware, we opened up the space.  We added a touch of elegance by coordinating accessories; the silver shower curtain, mat, towels and lamp, along with a floor vase, accent the crisp white cabinets beautifully, and keep the space bright and airy. The only thing left to do is to build a wood frame around the mirror and paint it white! ...read more

PART II - REdesign by Room - The Living/Family Room

8 Simple Solutions for your family/living room!Update your lamps and/or shades.  You may choose to buy new, or dress up your old plain shade using fabric pens, ribbon, beading, fabric, hanging crystals... endless possibilities!  And, while you're at it, spray paint the base to bring an outdated lamp in to the 21st century.Feel adventurous? Install crown molding, baseboard and doorway trim.  One trick to add depth is to install a strip of quarter round six inches or so above your existing baseboard and paint the baseboard, wall in between, and quarter round gloss white - beautiful upgrade!Repaint the walls and/or celing.   A simple, inexpensive way to transform any room.  Think about painting the ceiling a bold color, and the walls a neutral hue - stunning way to add a dramatic accent!Hang your photos artistically (and NOT too high!).  Group them with mirrors or art, make a clock using the photos as the numbers, vary the photo sizes... A great idea is to play around with them prior to hanging by laying out paper in the size of the wall space you want to fill, then arrange the frames - when you have them laid out how you want them, make holes in the paper where the nails will go, place the paper on the wall and mark through the holes...and - voila - wall art!Slip cover an outdated floral couch, add new throw pillows - or cheaper still... cover your old ones with scrap fabric from the fabric store!  A great way to introduce a new color, or add a splash.Rearranging your furniture and reorganizing the flow can make a huge difference.  Play around with it until you find a layout you love.Whether you have built in or free standing book cases, highlight them by painting or wallpapering the inside back to coordinate with the room, carry through an accent color, or add splash of something bright.  If you want the ability to change out depending on your mood, cover cardboard cut to the dimensions of the back of the shelf in fabric - simply slide in, and presto, you have a new look!Hang curtains, swag sheers over a rod, or make a simple valance to accent windows.  ...read more

REDESIGN TO SELL - TOP 10 LIST

Re-design to Sell – Top Ten List So you’ve decided to move on, move up, move out… Here is my Top Ten List to ensure a fast sale at a price you want. #1 - Change your Mind The first thing you have to do is to wrap your head around the fact that it isn’t your house anymore.  Yes, you will live there until you’ve signed on the dotted line, but it’s time to decorate with potential buyers, top dollar, and a fast sale in mind.  When buyers aren’t distracted by clutter, dirt, or too many personal objects, they are able to envision themselves LIVING there – and that my friends, is what you want!  #2 – Best Foot Forward First impressions are critical!  You are courting buyers – IMPRESS THEM!  You only get one chance at a first impression – use it wisely, keeping the end goal in mind.  I don’t know about you, but I never went on a first date in my sweats, and you wouldn’t interview for your dream job with mismatched shoes or a hole in your jacket, would you?  View this process in the same light - your house is now a product, and it needs to be presented in the most appealing way possible.  Imagine yourself as the buyer and take a good look around – get picky, and be honest!  Could the walls use a fresh coat of paint?  Has the carpet seen better days, or at the very least, would it benefit from a good cleaning?  Is there too much furniture – could it be rearranged to make the room appear to more spacious?   #3 – Bye, Bye clutter As buyers walk through your house, you want their eye to move easily from room to room focusing on the great features rather than your “stuff”, so less is definitely more.  Remove your wedding photos, school pictures, collectibles, and kids’ artwork.  Don’t stop there - open your cupboards and closets – buyers will!  Make sure they are neat, and not overflowing; if your stuff doesn’t fit, buyers will assume theirs won’t either.   Now is as good a time as any to sort through and eliminate what you won’t be taking with you, and pack what you won’t need until you’ve moved.  Look at the bright side – the more you weed out now, the less you have to pack for the move, and the more you can pack now, the more organized you will be when you get that top dollar offer. #4 – Fix it Address anything that needs fixing, even if you’ve learned to live with it.  Replace burned out light bulbs, clean carpets, repair that leaky faucet, clean the grout and caulk in the bathrooms and kitchen, repair wall or ceiling cracks, eliminate hanging extension cords, oil squeaky hinges.  Anything that potential buyers, or worse, a home inspector might fixate on is something you should address immediately. #5 – Clean it Once you’ve de-cluttered and fixed, it’s time for a thorough cleaning.  Clean the windows, window sills, window coverings, floors, ceiling fans, furniture, fireplace, kitchen cupboards (inside and out), oven and refrigerator.  In the bathrooms, replace worn towels and make sure countertops are clear and clean, and that the mirror sparkles. While laundry rooms are, well… for laundry, no one wants to see your dirty laundry – stash it! Anyone with kids knows that their rooms are notorious disaster zones for clutter, but now is the time to organize it, and contain those pesky Lego pieces.  #6 – Curb appeal Remember, this is the first thing that buyers see, so make sure your front yard is mowed and weed free. Power wash the house if it needs it, scrub the front door, sweep the porch and all walkways, make sure the garbage and recycling cans are tucked out of sight.  Add colorful flowers and a welcome mat. #7 – Neutralize it Color choice is a personal and bold wall colors may turn off potential buyers, so that aqua marine wall in the living room and that cranberry red in the dining room need to go!  Neutral no longer means boring beige, and these days you can find every color in the rainbow in soft neutral hues – pick one which best accentuates your furniture, and makes the space seem more spacious and more airy. #8 – Remove and Rearrange - Repeat Remove excess or oversized furniture and rearrange it to maximize space, flow, and home features.  Find a place to tuck away your small appliances - you want your kitchen counters to seem endless!  In the bathrooms, stash the toiletries out of sight and put out your best towels.  Make sure each room has a purpose, and is stylishly organized for maximum appeal. #9 – Set the Stage As you walk through your house, make sure that the furniture is arranged for smooth flow and that accessories are minimalistic, elegant, and coordinated.   Add fresh flowers anywhere, fresh fruit in a bowl on the kitchen island, a book and throw on your favorite chair – whatever says “welcome”! #10 – Maintain It The hard part is over, you’ve followed the steps above, and now are kicking back, breathing a sigh of relief, and just enjoying the feeling – GREAT JOB – but now you have to keep it up for those short notice viewings!  Keep in mind, that feeling you have as you look around and think “wow, this looks great” is the feeling you want potential buyers to have – every time. I promise you, it’s all worth the effort, but if you just can’t find the time or motivation to get all of this done, consider hiring a home stager or interior redesigner to help get you on the right track, or even handle the whole process for you. ...read more
