Sears Auto Center - Closed

1.0

By jzrose99

Not only is this the worst auto center in the nation, it is the worst service of anything I have ever experienced. I brought my truck in for a typical tune-up, they charged me $1K and said it was all good. I started the car and immediately could tell nothing was improved and went back into the shop. They assured me that continuing to drive the vehicle on my 1 hour commute was ok and to come back in the morning. I came back the next morning and that evening, everything repeated from the previous day ....they said the vehicle was ok, it wasn't... and I was asked to bring it back the next day again. The third day I brought back the vehicle and they had it for 3 days; when I picked it up, the service manager said he had no idea what was wrong and to go to a dealership. The Ford dealership easily could tell that Sears improperly installed 3 spark plugs and cracked the porcelain on them. This caused all the choking and performance issues. They charged me half of what Sears charged me (in which Sears never offered a refund) and I was on my way...but that's not all...three days later, my engine light goes on and I immediately bring it back to Ford. Guess what? Two catalytic converters are clogged....that will be $4,500! I have spoken to several mechanics including Ford, precision tune and friends of mine and ALL stated this is purely related to my continued driving on the vehicle with the improperly installed spark plugs. At a high level - the car's choking caused the raw fuel to be injected into the converters and created the clogging issues. So - I called the Sears manager and of course he denies responsibility...never offers to refund the original $1K either. I escalate to their corporate offices to a "Level 1" (1.800.479.6351 option 6) for a response and no one calls me back after 2 days. I call back and it goes to "Level 2" with no response from the district manager. I call back and am now a "Level 3" and after a couple days finally get a call back and of course the Regional Manager denies all responsibility. He offers a third party claims company to investigate. I looked into it and it is bogus. All they are trying to do is delay and hope I go away. My attorney is drafting a letter this weekend to sue. Oh wait, on top of all of this above, the cherry on the top...I called and told the shop on Thursday that I was traveling all week and needed to pick up the vehicle from their parking lot and to please leave the keys under the driver's mat. I pleaded with them to ensure I didn't arrive at the Sears at 11 PM at night in a cab with locked doors and no keys....you can guess what happened. $253 in cab ride from DC to Bowie to my home in Western MD. If you bring your vehicle there, you are out of your mind! ...read more

Chaney Tire & Auto

I finally picked up my vehicle. It was a huge repair...$1985! But I have to say that, so far, I think that Chaney did a good job. They also were very nice. When I came to pick up...my debit card wouldn't do more than $1000.00 in a day, and they actually offered to take me to the bank to pick up the cash and bring me back! (I was a weepy mess at the time). As a former Area Service Manager for General Manager, I believe that the price charged was fair, and the work seems to be well done. ...read more

Will so change this if I get my vehicle back by Friday. I am a former area service manager for GM. Can't understand why it's taken so long for my repair to come back from the machinist. I'm told that once the heads come back it will just take a day....cool...but when will these guys have my heads back? No one calls to keep me up to date...that's unfair because nothing is happening and no one is checking so...they are right to not to call, right? Um... ...read more
