Terrible school. They promise the world and give you nothing. They promise to help you find a job when you graduate and all the career department does is change the format of your rsum. I graduated in 2011 from their MA program and I'm not even working in the medical field. Thankfully I found a job in a different field that pays way more than medical assisting ever would. Their financial aide department is less than helpful and full of people who don't know how to do their job and cause unnecessary stress and frustration. If you're thinking of going here, think again. ...read more

John Mosca with the Hopkinton High School Jazz band

Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Hay and Mr. Dodge of the Hopkinton music department, we were able to sponsor a clinic with legendary jazz musician, trombonist and educator John Mosca. John Mosca rehearsing the Hopkinton High School jazz band. The clinic took place during the Jazz Band’s rehearsal at the high school on Friday, November 14th, and lasted about an hour. John Mosca has been a mainstay on the international jazz scene for the last 30 plus years. He has been a member of the Al Porcino Big Band and Mel Lewis Quintet, and is probably best known for his work with the Thad Jones – Mel Lewis Big Band, which became the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra in 1990. He is currently the director of this Grammy winning ensemble, and is also the longest standing current member of the band. He has taught on the faculty of such prestigious schools as New England Conservatory and the Manhattan School of Music. John Mosca with Mr. Hay and Mr. Dodge of the Hopkinton music department. During the clinic, the band worked on some of their ensemble pieces, including the Thad Jones tune “Big Dipper.” This piece in particular provided a great learning opportunity for the students, since John Mosca has peformed and recorded with Thad Jones. He also worked the band through a series of ensemble based exercises, challenging them to be able to think and play on the spot. The students were very engaged throughout the entire experience, clearly aware of the special opportunity to work with a jazz legend. John remarked that it was great to “work with such a talented group of kids” and that “it’s great to see that jazz is alive and well in our schools.” Overall, the clinic was a huge success, and certainly a rehearsal that the students won’t forget anytime soon. ...read more

Jazz Legend & Yamaha Performing Artist Phil Woods visits DFMC

Jazz legend and Yamaha artist Phil Woods visits David French Music We were thrilled to host a clinic by Phil Woods in our recital hall this past Saturday, January 17th. Musicians, young and old, and fans of jazz filled the room as one of the most famous and celebrated artists in jazz history talked for more than an hour about his life as a musician. Along with stories from the road, he mixed in some insight into his approach to improvisation, and even a little bit of playing. The stories he shared touched on his experiences and relationships with other jazz greats, such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonius Monk, Clark Terry, Benny Goodman, and many more. He captivated the audience for the entire time, and spent time answering questions at the end. Many thanks to Yamaha for helping to make this a possibility, and to all of the people who attended. It was certainly a special event that we’ll remember for a long time! ...read more
