About Catlettsburg, KY
Catlettsburg is a city located in Boyd County in the state of Kentucky. The city has a population of about 2,000 people. It is part of the Huntington-Ashland Metropolitan Statistical Area, however, which means it can incorporate up to or more than 300,000 people. The city is intersected with Interstate 64 and U.S. Routes 23 and 60. During the Civil War the city served as a Union Army supply depot and then developed, in the late 19th century, into a large hardwood and timber manufacturer. Now, Catlettsburg is home to some of the oldest operating businesses in the area which include Bowling’s Feed and Hardware Store, Craycraft’s Foodland Supermarket and Kentucky Farmers Bank, which have all been operating for over 60 years. The city is mostly flat along the rivers that crisscross its land but there are steep rocky hillsides that line the western side of the city. Near the city are the Ohio and Big Sandy Rivers. It is also home to the Catlettsburg Refinery which is owned by Marathon Oil Corporation. Some of the most famous people to come from the city are Nannie Scott Honshell and Bill Clark, author of Goodbye Kate. The Catlettsburg Independent School District is now merged with Boyd County School. There is an elementary school in Catlettsburg but the junior and senior highs are Boyd County Schools. There is also a private Christian School.
