Columbus is the second largest city in, as well as the county seat of, Cherokee County, Kansas. The majority of the city's residents are employed in the manufacturing industry. Followed closely by government and retail jobs. The city is host to many annual events including the Hot Air Balloon Regatta, the Columbus Day Festival and the Christmas Celebration. The city is also home to many attractions including Victorian homes and churches, the Clock Tower, the Columbus Museum, Big Brutus, Mined Land Wildlife Area and Wayland Gregory Sand Sculpture. Students here attend the Columbus Area Public Schools. Other schools in the area include Coffeyville Community College and Technical School and the nearby Pittsburg State University.
