IMS Earns AAA Certification from NAID After Rigorous Process
IMS, a Mexico, MO based business has been granted AAA certification by the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID).
The nine-month process to earn NAID certification ensures that companies adhere to best practices in records destruction of all forms of discarded media containing personal and proprietary information. The process is voluntary for companies, which choose to undergo the extensive inspection necessary to earn NAID certification.
"While IMS has been a member of NAID for nine years, becoming NAID Certified places IMS at a higher level in the document shredding space," Vince Fuemmeler, president/CEO, said. "Identify theft, compliance, government regulations and the assurance that our clients' (and our clients' clients) confidential information is properly destroyed has become an important part of any business' privacy and security plan. I'm proud of how hard our team members at IMS have worked to belong in the elite group of Certified NAID companies."
The certification process included an onsite inspection of the IMS facility and its security procedures and systems. IMS also had to demonstrate that its policy and procedure manual reflected NAID standards in terms of access, employees and operations for onsite and mobile handling of data destruction.
Due to the ongoing inspections, which are both scheduled and unannounced, NAID-certified businesses are held accountable for maintaining the standards. These standards cover all processes from the background checks and drug testing of employees to the shred size and destruction of material.
Auditors observe the employees as they collect material from the locked storage containers at sites such as offices and schools through the final recycling of the shredded documents.
The parameters for the shred site and the recycling requirements include specifications that the hard copies must be cross-cut shredded, pulverized, or incinerated until there is reasonable assurance that the material can not be reconstructed. IMS pulverizes all materials and recycles the finished bales of paper in a closed-loop, environmentally safe process.
NAID was established in 1994, when data breaches, privacy issues and identity theft became common problems.
