Eating Disorder Treatment in Idaho

What Is An Eating Disorder An eating disorder is distinguished by extremes and patterns. When a person experiences severe disturbances in eating behavior, such as a noticeable reduction of food intake, overeating, or feelings of extreme concern about body weight or shape. An eating disorder may start out by eating smaller or larger amounts of food than usual, but at some point, the urge to eat less or act out on unhealthy behaviors becomes greater. This results in addictive behaviors and rituals. Eating Disorders are broken up in to a few key categories, such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. A third category is "eating disorders not otherwise specified (EDNOS)," which includes several variations of eating disorders. Most of these disorders are similar to anorexia or bulimia but with slightly different characteristics. Binge-eating disorder, which involves eating large amounts of certain foods in a short period of time, followed by a period of little to no food intake. How We Can Help Statistics show that over 50% of female clients with chemical dependency issues, also have a history of an eating disorder. With that in mind we wanted to make sure we could accommodate the needs of females within our community. Ashwood Recovery offers a specialized eating disorder group for women. They do not have to have a substance abuse disorder to enter this group. The group is facilitated by Pam Harris, LPC. Pam specializes in helping women identify the underlying issues related to their eating disorder. The group is focused on giving women a safe place to discuss their disorder and identify new ways to cope with life. For availability or more information on our eating disorder program, please call us at 888-277-0068. More About Eating Disorders Eating disorders frequently appear during adolescence or young adulthood, but some reports indicate that they can develop during childhood or later in adulthood. Women and girls are more likely than males to develop an eating disorder. However, we are learning that these disorders effect the male population differently and due to this new insight, we are finding the male numbers increasing. Eating disorders often coexist with other disorders such as depression, substance abuse, or anxiety disorders. People with eating disorders also can suffer from numerous other physical health complications, such as heart conditions or kidney failure, which can lead to death. ...read more
