Hiawatha is a city in Linn County, Iowa. The population was 6,480 as of the 2000 census. Hiawatha is considered a suburb of Cedar Rapids, and is part of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hiawatha was incorporated in 1950. Every Memorial Day weekend the city of Hiawatha puts on a Memorial Day Bike and Rodeo Parade. The biggest schools here are Hiawatha Elementary School and Nixon Elementary School. The University of Iowa is 23 miles away in Iowa City.
