Took a van belonging to my friends to be washed as a Christmas present. The car wash ripped off the passenger mirror.Managers excuse for not accepting responsibility.The mirror has scratches on it and that obviously weakened the structure of the mirror.This was a folding mirror. If it had been hit from the front or behind it would have simply folded in. This was struck from the top or bottom.I asked the manager "If we had folded the mirrors do you think this would have happened?"His reply, "We will never know and it's not our responsibility to fold in the mirrors any more than it is our responsibility to roll up the windows".I pointed out that they have a sign that tells customers to roll up the windows and that NON FACTORY accessories weren't AutoBell's responsibility.Then the manager pointed out that none of the other cars had their mirrors torn off so it couldn't have been the wash that did it.The replacement FACTORY mirror was $30 on E-bay with free shipping. ...read more

What causes mineral scaling in pumps and coils? And how can you fit it? Hard water does not necessarily or automatically equal mineral scaling. Conversely, "soft water" does not mean that you can not get mineral scale build up. The determining factor is the saturation of minerals in the water. If the water is under-saturated or at equilibrium saturation, there will be no scale. And the saturation index of water is controlled by it's acidity, which we determine by it's pH measurement. The lower the pH, the more acid the water and the larger amount of scale minerals it can hold in solution. Therefore the higher the pH, the less acid (or more alkaline) the water, the lower the saturation index, and less of dissolved minerals the water can hold. We can artificially raise the pH of water when using a hot water vs. a cold water pressure washer and it's ancillary equipment, wand, nozzles etc. Therefore contractors using hot water machines have more need to address the factors of mineral scaling more often then those operating cold water systems, but this does not give cold water contractors reason to write off worrying about mineral scale in their systems. Since the majority of pressure washing chemicals fall on to the alkaline side of the pH spectrum all pressure washing contractors that run these chemicals at these higher pH's will face mineral scaling at some time in their pressure washers pumps, coils and secondary equipment connected to these machines. So how do you combat the effects of high pH without loosing the positive effect that hot water and your cleaning chemicals provide?
