About Claxton, GA

Claxton is a large urban community situated within Evans County of Georgia. Claxton is known for being the county seat for Evans County and for hosting the famous Claxton Fruit Cake, which comes from the internationally renowned Georgia Fruitcake Company. Major attractions for the Claxton area include the Evan Heights Golf Club‎ and the Claxton State Park. Among the biggest companies in Claxton are Claxton Handi House and a company called Beasley Insurance Inc.. The biggest schools here are the Claxton High School and the Cisace Academy. One of the best places to visit when you are in the Claxton area is the Georgia Primitive Baptist Camp.

We do not understand how you sentenced a young boy (April 22, 2014) to 6 months in PDC and 10 years probation without hearing the facts from both sides, then 2 days later (April 24, 2014) gave him the First Offenders Act? Especially after the DA called the boys lawyer the night before, made a deal with the lawyer. On the day of court his lawyer was under the impression that the DA's deal had been made and would stand. He released the character witness during the lunch break, thinking because of the deal, they were no longer needed. Nor did he call the parents or the accused to the stand to validate what was being said. We do not understand what changed between the time court broke for lunch and the time it resumed. We are very upset as to the outcome. The boy had barely turned seventeen and made a big mistake. This was three years ago. He has been paying for it and will continue paying for the rest of his life. Not counting the fact that he was arrested during his fifth period class at high school, handcuffed in front of the students, and taken to jail. The principal then took away a school award and said, "because of this matter he would not be entitled to receive it, nor would he be aloud to be pictured in yearbook as a winner the award". I feel that although he did do an injustice, his consequences seem to be never ending. He has been shunned by his community from every angle. One of the injured party perjured herself and was not completely truthful. It seems she forgot to mention that her daughter was in love with the accused while he rejected her. So she turned the whole process into personal vendetta. We do not know who this lawyer was working for but it obviously was not the boy or his parents. Their have been many other more serious crimes committed in this community that did not get near the sentence that this young boy received. We do not understand where the justice is or obviously how it works. ...read more
