What a treasure of a place we found. Walking thru the store we found a sofa and end tables we couldn't live without. We made the purchase from a sales clerk (Russell) there and it was delivered within a couple of days. When the sofa was pulled out of the box by the delivery boys it had a rip in it. They made the deal right by taking the ripped one back and exchanging it for one that wasn't ripped. (Just as they should have) I made a quick call to the store to speak to one of the owners/managers to let them know this had taken place and that I appreciated them taking care of the problem. I was put on the phone with Canetha and she was quick to offer me several apologies. And a couple days later in my mailbox was a gift card to Alexander's for all my troubles. My family has shopped at this store for about seven years. We practically furnished our entire mountain cabin with furniture and other products purchased at Alexander's. We had some rather indifferent sales people and some really, really nice sales people. But my most recent experience really beats all. I bought some gift items for my daughter's boyfriend, but when I showed her what I bought she said she didn't think he could use them. I phoned the store to ask if I could return the items as they had posted signs saying they would not process returns/exchanges on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. Because I was returning to Florida on Sunday and would not be back until May, I asked if they could make an exception, and the very nice man on the phone said sure. He said to just explain my situation to anyone at the checkout and he was sure that my request would be honored. Oh man, was he WRONG!!! The woman shot daggers at me with her eyes; tight-lipped and unsmiling she snatched my receipt, processed the refund and then flipped my receipt back at me with a sarcastic "have a nice weekend" remark. She then proceeded to walk over to the other employees behind the counter and talk about me while I was still standing there. I was in total shock at her poisonous hatefulness. I wandered around in a bit of a daze, not quite believing what had just happened. I then asked one of the nice sales associates in the furniture section to find a manager for me. They asked me to explain what I was wanting with a manager. When I told them what had just gone down, their eyes got real big and they looked uncomfortable . . .turns out the mean-spirited little wench at the checkout was none other than the OWNER'S DAUGHTER-IN-LAW!!! Way to go Alexander's!!! I guess it won't really matter, because they are just about the only place to shop in Blairsville, but I do believe I'll start going to Blue Ridge or some other near-by town to do my shopping from now on.
