Performing Arts Mom

So, I am not only a studio owner but a mom too.  I am the mother of a three and five year old and everyday, I ask myself do Iwant my children to follow this life of the performing arts.  I look at students in my studio and while most have a true passion and can't wait to be there thenext time the soor opens, there are a few who obviously do not want to be there.  So you ask yourself, why did they enroll there child here.  It could be because the parents are lving vicariously through their child trying to relive some old passion.  It could be simply needing childcare or a break from there child. But, most often, it is my kid lacks direction.  All he does is sit on the couch watch tv and play video games.  How do I keep my five year old from becoming that very thing?   I know that the arts teaches life skills, confidence and esteem, but how do I translate that into something my kindergartner will enjoy?   By making it something he can relate to.  This is why for the first year ever, we are offering a star wars camp for boys only......Here they will fight with light sabers stage combat style, learn jedi dancing, act out their favorite star wars scenarios and generally wreak havoc.  It is my hope if I can just capture the imagination of one child perhaps it will open up a world of wonder for them. ...read more
